“Be the kind of leader you would want to follow”

-Unknown

Follow the leader was a fun game that many of us played as children. After a ‘leader’ was chosen, the rest of us would have to watch him or her very closely and attempt to mimic every move they made. If you messed up, you were out. However, if you were the last one standing and had closely followed the exact movements of the leader, you won and got to be the new leader.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if companies worked the same way? Everyone carefully watching the leader and trying to imitate his actions to see who would get a promotion? This could go wonderfully or it could be a disaster depending on who the leader is.

Maybe you already have a great boss who is investing in you and fostering your abilities. If so, that’s wonderful! Be careful never to take that person for granted. Excellent leaders are hard to find because good leadership requires patience, confidence, and sacrifice.

If you’re missing this kind of mentorship in your career, we’d love to have a conversation with you about finding a new role within a company that will help you grow and develop as an individual.
