The Birthday Effect

Did you know that you are more likely to die close to/on your birthday than at any other time of the year?

As scientists have studied this statistic throughout history, they have measured the likelihood to be anywhere from 6.7% up to 44.4%! While there isn’t much explanation for why this phenomenon happens, it is a proven fact that has been observed across many different decades and countries.

Even though the threat of death is ominous, most people choose to celebrate anyway. Birthdays mark another rotation around the sun physically, but are a mental benchmark as well. People tend to look back at the past year and see what they have accomplished, while resolving what they hope to do in the year ahead.
