When a star dies, it doesn’t always go quietly

This is a rare occurrences, happening in our galaxy only once or twice a century. However, the event results in immense change for everything within a few hundred light years.

As the fusion within runs out of fuel, the star’s core will begin to collapse under the immense gravity. This will trigger a cosmic phenomenon known as a supernova. The ensuing explosion will be incredibly bright and will outshine the entire galaxy as the remnants of the star disintegrate. In the wake of this destruction, a nebula may be formed, thus starting the life cycle of the star over again.
