The Zanetti Train Incident

In 1911, an Italian train belonging to The Zanetti Train Company carried 104 passengers into a mountain tunnel on its maiden voyage and was never seen again. Only two of the people who boarded the train were reported as survivors. Both claimed to have had a premonition of doom and jumped from the vehicle before it entered the tunnel. In subsequent years, each of the pair would be diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder.

Strange rumors followed the train’s disappearance. While there was a lack of evidence, many people believed it was either a supernatural occurrence and/or a cover-up. Some believe that the train crashed and, fearing bad press, the company hid the evidence by demolishing the tunnel’s entrance, then claimed the destruction was caused by a World War II aerial attack.

More implausible stories claim that the Zanetti Train became displaced in time, as there were several alleged sightings of a pre-war model train in 1955 and again in 1977. The most fantastic theory of all is that the train traveled back in time and space to Mexico City in 1844, which was 67 years before it vanished!

With no evidence, modern experts have declared the entire incident an urban legend, stating that there is no proof of The Zanetti Train Company ever having existed. Today, we have no way of determining if the legend of the missing train is based in truth or if it is just another ghost story.
