Quicksand

Made of 70% water and 30% very fine sand and/or silt, quicksand is a naturally occurring phenomenon found near rivers, beaches, and marshes. More specifically, it can only form in locations where the water table, the underground boundary between the saturated and unsaturated zones of the earth, are especially high. More simply put, a place where the ground itself is completely soaked with water. Pair that with a very fine grade of sand or dirt and, congratulations, you have found quicksand!

While it is a common obstacle in movies and TV shows, quicksand is something we rarely face in day-to-day life. At least, not in the physical sense.
