A Love/Hate Relationship

Most people have a love/hate relationship with shoe shopping. There is nothing better than finding an awesome-looking pair of shoes, putting them on your feet, taking a few steps, and knowing that it was meant to be. The excitement and adrenaline of finding the perfect fit can be additive, which I believe is why some people own dozens of pairs of shoes.

On the flip side, it is horribly disappointing to see a nice pair of shoes on sale and try them on, only to discover that they aren’t wide enough or that they pinch your toes. You might spend a few minutes trying to convince yourself that you love them so much it will be worth the discomfort. However, even if you do purchase the shoes, you most likely won’t wear them very often, or, if you do, they will probably always be taken off before the end of the night.

Size Matters

In the end, it all comes down to how the shoe feels on your foot. The exterior can be amazing and impressive, but if it isn’t a good fit, it’s not going to work out.

Shoe shopping is like job hunting. The company can look great on the outside and have a hundred good reviews, but it’s the fit that really matters. If the company suits all of your needs, it is less important what it looks like on the outside. The last thing you want to do is take a position at a prestigious company that isn’t big enough for your career to expand or that can’t support your professional development.

Shoes come in lots of different styles and colors. We need different types for different reasons. For Example, very few people would choose to jog in heels or decide that loafers were beach wear.

Similarly, when you are trying to build your team, you need a candidate that doesn’t just look great on paper but is a functional, contributing individual. When selecting future employees, it is important to consider what role they will perform for the company. Just as not all styles of shoes are designed for all jobs, neither are all people.
