The Milky Way is a spiral galaxy, which means it is constantly in motion. Not only do the nine planets in our solar system rotate around the sun, but the sun itself is in orbit around the center of the galaxy where a massive black hole can be found. This black hole creates an enormous amount of gravitation pull, which is what keeps The Milky Way spinning.

If this motion ever stopped, catastrophe would occur. The planets would quickly be pulled into the sun and the stars would collide shortly after. In essence, our galaxy must continue moving forward to avoid destruction.
