Chupacabra

The chupacabra, which translates to “goat sucker”, is a legendary monster that haunts parts of the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and several other nearby countries. Linked to livestock killings since 1975, the chupacabra is supposed to be a vampiric creature that leaves its victim with three puncture wounds in its neck and a body completely drained of blood.

While actual “sightings” are few and far between, the chupacabra is sometimes described as a reptilian creature, comparable in size to a bear, with spines on its back and leathery skin. Other accounts compare its appearance more to that of a large, slender dog.
Most believe that the urban legend of the chupacabra was spawned from a hairless breed of Mexican dogs, Xoloitzcuintli (Xolo), breeding with coyotes or other, larger dogs. These crosses, and even the Xolo’s unique appearance, are likely what inspired the lore behind the chupacabra.
While they don’t look like your standard pet, the Xolo is an affectionate, family dog, known for being loyal and eager to please.

The chupacabra is a great example of how something can seem scarier than it really is, especially in the dark. The fear of the unknown is something that can hold us back in our professional lives as well. It can keep us from pursuing our dream job and taking the next step up the corporate ladder.
