Pete was the best player on his soccer team at the beginning of the year. He was faster than the rest of the children and worked hard to master a variety of foot skills. However, halfway through the season, things started to go wrong. Pete began tripping over his feet, his skill level dropped, and he couldn’t seem to keep up with the other kids anymore.

After missing an easy goal, Pete’s coach called him over to ask what had happened.

“My feet have been feeling sore lately,” Pete explained sadly. “It’s really affecting the way I play.”

Upon further investigation, the coach discovered that Pete had outgrown his cleats and they were pinching his toes.

“There’s nothing wrong with you at all,” the coach promised. “You’re just ready to move into a bigger and better pair of shoes.”
