Under the Surface

Perhaps one of the most globally famous cryptids is the Loch Ness Monster, commonly called Nessie. Ever since the 6th century, people have been claiming that a remnant from the dinosaur age has been living in the waters of Loch Ness. While nearly all of the evidence has turned out to be fake, there are simply too many stories and sightings for us not to wonder.

Extensive searches have been made using sonar devices, mobile camera units, thermal imaging, DNA testing, and echolocation equipment. Some of the data was promising, but none conclusive enough to determine if Nessie was real or just an urban legend. In the past few decades, sightings have become much more rare, leading scientists to wonder if the creature/creatures have gone extinct.

Sadly, this riddle may never be solved. The truth lies just under the surface, but the water of the loch is murky and the silty bottom easily stirred up, making visibility difficult.
