Pause is often indicated by two bars parallel to each other. This symbol represents a moment of stillness and quiet before resuming whatever activity is taking place.

There are lots of instances where a pause might be taken. Whatever the reason, having the ability to suspend a moment is very useful. It allows for the interruption to be as convenient as possible.
